Journey into the heart of Alaska through unforgettable stories! In this literature course, students will explore life in the Far North through three beloved novels: “The Year of Miss Agnes,” “The Call of the Wild,” and “Dogsong.” Through these powerful stories, students will discover what it’s like to live in Alaska’s unique landscapes—from small village life to the icy wilderness of the Arctic. They will follow memorable characters as they face challenges, build resilience, and learn important lessons about courage, community, and survival. Students will develop reading comprehension through guided discussions, creative activities, and literary analysis. Along the way, they will explore themes such as perseverance, respect for nature, friendship, and cultural traditions. This course brings literature to life while helping students build a deeper understanding of Alaska’s people, history, and environment.
